My candle burns for all the world.
Its flame stands clear and true.
It burns for those I care about.
It ‘specially burns for you.
My candle burns for all the world.
Its flame stands clear and true.
It burns for those I care about.
It ‘specially burns for you.
The moon lit up a golden path
across December’s sky,
lighting up the silent earth
as darkness swept on by.
Now Princess is a lonely cat.
She drifts from place to place.
Where once she saw another cat,
there’s now just empty space.
A single leaf
hangs on the tree.
It chose its final spot.
It won’t let go
and drop below–
clings tight with all it’s got!
There’s a bright-lit moon
in the Southern sky.
It’s not a “moon to remember”.
But, it does remind
that we still can find
some lovely night skies in December.
Let us be angels, one for another.
Let us be angels who share the
bittersweet moments that make up one’s life.
Let us be angels who care.

Now Princess is an Only Cat.
She seems a little wary.
She looks around for other cats.
Not one.
It must be scary.
The leaves fall down.
I rake them up.
Then, we begin again.
Fall, fall, fall….
Rake, rake, rake…
with leaves one doesn’t win.
I know the rain.
I know the feel
of dampness on my skin.
I know the quiet stillness
as the first soft drops begin.
I know the rain.
I know the way
it blows across my face,
touching for a moment,
moving on without a trace.
I know the rain.
I feel the gentle brush
of wetness from the sky.
It’s with us for an instant.
Then it passes, quiet, by.
I know the rain.
Life and death are very close.
They’re just a breath apart.
The diff’rence of a silence
and a pulsing, beating heart.
