Election Day is over.
The results are coming in.
It’s not clear where we’re going,
but, we don’t like where we’ve been.
All across the country,
the electorate has rallied.
So, in all the towns and cities,
people’s votes are being tallied.
The results are inconclusive,
but we don’t like What We’ve Got.
We want things to be diff’rent.
We want What We Have Not.
I had two Trick or Treaters…
cute and friendly…at my door.
Now, I’ve lots of extra candy
‘cause I planned for many more.
I bought the candies I like best.
I chose them to my taste.
I’m a prudent, careful woman
so they cannot go to waste.
So, here is my dilemma.
I don’t know what to do.
Should I eat this luscious candy
now that Halloween is through?
Yes. The candle’s burning brightly.
Yes. Its flame is clear and true.
Yes. It lights the way ahead to show
a path for all you do.
They say the Northern Lights are out,
for lots of the USA.
They say the sight’s magnificent,
a Fabulous Display.
I guess I’ll have to take their word.
I’ve searched skies far and near.
The only thing I see is clouds.
It’s dark and gloomy here.
The candle’s burning for you –
sure and steady through the rain.
It will cast its light before you
till you’re safely home again.
Thirty-six hours of rain, they say,
is out in the ocean, heading our way.
It’s rained for the better part of a week,
but it hasn’t begun to reach its peak.
I said, last summer, that I wouldn’t complain
when fall rolled round and it started to rain.
So,I’m really not whining ‘bout being wet.
I just do wonder how wet it will get.
I’m waiting beside the Rainbow Bridge.
Soon, there’ll be a
little break in the weather.
When the sun peeks out,
we’ll both hold hands
and we’ll walk across together.
It’s time to make a final choice
to vote in the election.
It’s time to slide right off the fence
and make a firm selection.
I’ve read what the incumbents say.
I’ve read whom they oppose.
My ballot’s lacking what I need:
a box marked “None of Those.”
The “bomb cyclone” was just a dud.
Yes, it rained a little bit.
We had some wind and some drops of rain,
but, that was just about it.
Do you feel the warm protection
of the candle’s steady flame?
It sends its light before you.
It’s burning in your name.
