My candle lifts its steady flame

to join with all the earth….

to lighten up its slorrow…

to join with all its mirth.

Dandelions lift their heads

from hedges, lawns, and flower beds.

They share their friendly, cheerful smile

and spread their seeds to stay awhile.

They settle in to be a friend –

make no demands – and never end.

It seems enough for them to show

to all the world their golden glow.

I see hyacinths and tulips and bright yellow daffodils.

Far on the Eastern skyline, I see snow on distant hills.

I see the green grass growing and my heart begins to sing.

For after dark of winter, I see ev’ry sign of Spring.

The dandelions hoist their heads

to  flash out golden grins.

They spread their yellow sunshine.

And that’s how Spring begins.

Today’s a day to giggle and poke.

To laugh a little.

To share a joke.

To break a non-essential rule.

To have some fun!

It’s April fool!

My candle burns for all the world.

It burns for folks like me –

who simply want to live their lives

in peace and dignity.

The world’s aboil with hate and rage.

Hot anger holds the center stage.
