When these Virus Days are over
and again we get to go,
I’m afraid I won’t be going,
but right now I just don’t know.
I’ll be a good bit older
by the time this Virus ends.
I’ll be too old to travel….
and so will all my friends!
When these Virus Days are over
and again we get to go,
I’m afraid I won’t be going,
but right now I just don’t know.
I’ll be a good bit older
by the time this Virus ends.
I’ll be too old to travel….
and so will all my friends!
I broke my long, long fingernail
and therein lies a painful tale.
It broke across, beneath the quick.
Now it hurts like the Very Old Nick!
Dry mouth and a sweaty palm!
I fear my Ode doth not becalm.
My plan was just to bring her cheer.
Alas, it seems to bring her fear….
I love to shop at Trader Joe’s
in the hours from 8 to 9.
The store is nearly empty.
There’s almost never a line.
The carts are sanitized and bright.
(I guess they wash them overnight).
Friendly staff grab from the shelf
items I can’t reach myself.
Other stores are bigger
so they carry lots more stuff.
But, for the basics that I need,
TJ’s has just enuf.
I wish that I could travel.
I would fly to foreign lands.
I would see exotic places.
I would walk on golden sands.
I’d drive across the country.
I’d explore our Eastern shores.
But, since I still am Virus Bound,
I’ll just stay home, indoors.
The world’s a very different place
from the world I always knew.
I suppose that everyone who ages
finds that to be true.
It’ s not that things were better –
we had our troubles then.
But somehow I could “get it”.
Somehow I fitted in.
To celebrate your Birthday,
I’d like to bake a cake.
I’d like to throw a party.
I’d like to grill a steak.
But, in these times of Virus
I will simply send a card.
I hope you’re home and quiet,
maybe working in your yard.
And when the Dreaded Virus ends,
I’ll take you out to lunch,
with an entrée that’s quite special,
and perhaps some champagne punch.
I’m trying to learn to garden
in these “Stay Home” Virus Days.
And what I’m learning in my yard
does constantly amaze!
It’s not the weeds and slugs and black spot
that cause my face to frown.
The hardest part of gardening
is just getting up and down!
I’m alone in my house
with a box of See’s Candy.
I hid it away so
it won’t be handy.
I can hear it calling
from the back of the shelf!
So I have another piece —
in spite of myself.
I live on a quiet cul de sac.
I know my neighbors, front and back.
I’m used to them. They’re used to me.
It’s a very pleasant place to be.
