I do not cook,
but I love a book.
If I can read,
that’s all I need.
I do not cook,
but I love a book.
If I can read,
that’s all I need.
My High School friends mean a lot to me.
Together we lived through a slice of history.
–Together viewed the world with all the same-age eyes.
–Together saw life’s changes with a shared surprise.
Together we matured from youth to ripe old age.
Together we are waiting now to turn the next page.
High School years are just a fading memory.
But, High School friends still mean a lot to me.
A Mask is just not useful
if it’s dangled from your arm.
It might give a friendly signal
that you don’t mean any harm.
But, Face it! Suck it Up!
It’s time to Grin and Bear It!
A Mask is only useful if you wear it!
Maybe I should bake a cake….
or maybe bake a pie!
Maybe there’s a recipe
I’d really like to try.
Maybe I should turn the knob
to get the oven hot.
Maybe….or Maybe Not!
We need a little humor.
We need a little laughter.
We need some reassurance
there’s a “Happy Ever After.”
We need a little sunshine
after COVID 19 rain.
We need to know there’s life ahead
and we’ll be whole again.
Olivia has me on her list.
She’s like the Hounds of Hell.
Even though I do resist,
it isn’t working well.
The phone rings many times a day.
She calls from Apple Support.
And though I cut her off each time,
she Steadfastly Storms my Fort.
The phone rings and I run for it.
I scurry down the hall.
I leap up every time it rings.
I just don’t learn at all.
It could be something interesting—
like my Beloved Child.
Or maybe Publisher’s Clearing House!
Wouldn’t that be Wild!
I ordered up “Call Blocking”
so I try to stop her ring.
She must have “Call Unlocking”
‘cause it doesn’t do a thing.
I lift the phone quite eagerly
But I begin to whine.
There she is again….
Olivia’s on the line.
The Library’s part open –in
a sort of haphazard way.
I can get the books I want.
I just allow for a slight delay.
I think I can manage the Virus
(though that’s not guaranteed)
as long as Libraries are there
to supply the books I need.
Garden Lament
I wish I had a chainsaw!
I wish that I were strong!
I wish I could cut branches
that are big and thick and long.
I wish I could lift compost bags
and potting soil and such.
I’d like to be much stronger.
Is that Asking Too Much?
My garden keeps me busy.
There’s always more to do.
I weed and mow and prune and sow
and crow ‘bout what I grew!
The upside is surprising.
It’s been a plus for me.
My Corona Virus garden
is good Virus Therapy.
My refrigerator developed a
most peculiar smell.
Something inside it isn’t
doing so well.
Cleaning the kitchen’s
not high on my list.
So, I’ll ignore it unless
the odors persist.
