England

They’re crowning their King Charles

and the pageantry is grand.

They’re having celebrations

everywhere across their land.

They’re filled with pomp and circumstance

and royal history,

and they set if off with great eclat

to dazzle you and me.

It’s a festive day in England

as they crown another king,

even ‘tho they must be wond’ring

what his Kingly Reign will bring.

A monarchy is not for us.

We fought to leave it there.

Still, we’re glad to wish them happy

In their Very Grand Affair.

Lies

It used to be the children could

discern the truth from lies.

“Liar, liar, pants on fire”

rang out in school yard cries.

The grown-ups now have learned to lie —

dissemble, cheat, and steal.

And now it’s very hard to tell

the made-up from what’s real.
