It’s a Very Troubling time to be…
for daily folks like you and me.
We try to hear and understand
what’s going on across this land.
We want to know what’s real and true
to do the best that we can do.
But Man’s behavior is perplexing.
Quite confusing. Often vexing. So….
Is Man a blotch on history
or shaper of what’s yet to be?
Is Man a fumbling, Cosmic curse
or darling of the Universe?
Or both?
Dilemma.
Folks don’t do what I want them to.
That makes me Good and Mad!
If they would do what I want them to,
it would make me Very Glad!
In politics and traffic and
in ev’ry checkout line,
if folks would do things My Way
ev’rything would turn out fine!
I wish I were a sunbeam.
I would shine right down on you.
I’d light your day with sunshine and
I’d add some laughter, too.
Blessings spread from hand to hand…
from mouth to mouth….across the land.
Blessings root and sprout and grow,
and spread to ev’ryone they know.
Blessings bloom and multiply
and then divide and by and by
the simple blessing that you start
is safe at rest in ev’ry heart.
A friendly robot lives with me —
a constant presence I don’t see.
She lives within my telephone
and makes herself there quite at home.
She calls the people that I know.
She’s never fast and never slow.
She calls whoever I may name.
Her voice is always just the same.
She stays awake. She doesn’t sleep.
She doesn’t mind odd hours I keep.
As I grow old and cannot see,
this robot’s quite a help to me.
I wish for you a day of bliss,
as sweet as is a fairy’s kiss.
And may its sparkling hours pass by
as gentle as a butterfly.
Democracy is fragile –
like the gentle butterfly.
And we must pay attention
or democracy will die.
Our hearts are stunned
with shock and grief.
Devastation. No relief.
Searing pain at what was lost.
Unimagined human cost.
Unbelieving what we see.
Tragic toll of misery.
We weep.
This day comes to us as a gift.
No strings that I can find!
So, let’s accept this precious gift.
And, in return, be kind.
My garden rests in silence
‘neath the golden summer sun.
It offers up its beauty.
No demands on any one.
