Living the Aging Life

The year of twenty twenty four

is on its way right out the door.

But, Praise the Lord!

We did survive!

We’ll live to twenty twenty five!

The Uvalde children haunt me.

Empty places where they stood.

Silent voices on the playground.

Sorrow crushing young and good.

There isn’t much that I can do

to ease the world’s despair.

But, I can send my love to you

and know that you will share.

Together we can change the world.

We do it, one by one.

We’ll share this gift with all we know,

and soon it will be done.

My candle burns for all the world.

It’s something I can do.

It burns to show there’s love and hope.

It burns for me and you.

Today I’ll have a happy heart.

Today I’ll wear a grin.

Today I’ll find some happiness.

I’ll grow it from within.

It’s Christmas!

Feel the holiday!

Feel its happiness!

Feel the love that spreads around,

and know that you are blessed     .

Tomorrow is another day.

Today, it’s time for rest.

Tomorrow we will try again.

Today, we’ve done our best.

My candle spreads its Christmas light

for all the world to see.

It offers hope to all the world and

hope to you and me.

Life and death are very close —

not very far apart.

The distance of a whispered breath —

the pulsing of a heart.

I need a bit of magic in this gray December day.

I need a little glitter, need some fun.  I need to play.

I need a bit of laughter, need some sparkle, need some cheer.

And so, I’m thinking of you.

You’re the best part of my year.
