It’s icy cold in Reno,
Delaware, and West Palm Beach.
Even in Atlanta, there is cold
to freeze a peach.
It’s icy in my driveway.
There’s white frost across my lawn.
The cold is setting records
and it isn’t moving on.
The thermostats are dropping.
Old Man Winter’s working hard.
The proof of all his efforts
is played out across each yard!
The Uvalde children haunt me.
Texas wind blows ‘cross a grave.
What would I do in such danger?
Would I dare to be so brave?
My candle burns for those who drive
the nation’s streets and highways,
guarding those who navigate
the endless routes and by-ways.
My candle burns to keep all safe
along the country’s roads…
motorcycles, buses, cars,
and trucks with heavy loads.
My candle burns for those along
to be there on the ride,
who watch the undulating route
and take it all in stride.
My candle burns for engines, brakes
and tires that go around,
turning, turning as they go
across the miles of ground.
My candle lifts its light to give
a path for all to see –
so all who travel on their way
can reach home – trouble free.
Today s a day for hyacinths…
for beauty….for our soul.
We breathe the scent of hyacinths….
It makes a sore heart whole.
Some men dream of hope for all,
treat others like a brother.
And some men sow the seeds of hate
to trample one another.

The Evil Genies I have known
take one’s devices as their own.
They find devices strewn around
and confiscate them sans a sound.
They move right in. They take them over.
They relish them like sweetest clover.
What once was yours belongs to them —
now treasured as a precious gem.
You cannot win. No use to try.
Device is gone. Just say goodbye.
The Age is of Technology and
was not meant for you and me.
Believe my words, for they are true….
genies do what genies do.
Cause trouble.
I rise each morn and make my bed.
I fluff the place I laid my head.
I wonder why I do this stuff.
At ninety, I have done enuf!
I’m in the race for President.
I hope I’ll have your vote.
My platform is an easy one,
and from it you may quote.
No chores.
That’s it.
Full stop.
Just quit.
If you are sixty-five.
You’ve done your chores
for all these years
that you have been alive.
You don’t sign up.
You don’t enroll.
No deadline you must meet.
Just join with all us oldsters
who are voting with our feet.
So put your feet up on your couch
and vote along with me,
and you’ll live in a country
where us seniors are Chore Free!
May your heart hear this sweet lullaby
as it fills the silent night.
And may this loving melody
