My Early Girl tomatoes are
still ripening on the vine….
soaking up October sunshine….
looking pretty….tasting fine!

We’ll never win the Peace Prize,
but we all can make a start –
by loving one another,
holding Peace within our heart.
I make the best zucchini bread
that you’ll find anywhere.
You won’t taste any better from the
Washington State Fair!
Baking more zucchini bread’s
amongst my fav’rite habits.
I make it with zucchini that’s
left-over from Those Rabbits.
My candle burns for kids in school –
for little ones who learn
their numbers and their ABC’s
and when to take their turn.
My candle burns for older ones
who’ve learned to reason why…
who sit at desks and wonder
if today’s the day they die.
The Uvalde children haunt me.
Stoneman Douglas. Sandy Hook.
Sudden end to innocence.
Blood-soaked pages in a book.
My kitties think that they should eat
whenever they “Meow”.
Their mews become a chorus:
Feed me now.
Feed Me Now!
FEED ME NOW!
The U-Haul’s wheels turn steady,
swift and certain, down the road,
never choosing its direction,
only going where it’s towed.
When they reach Fort Riley, Kansas,
there’s a stop to change the load.
Then another driver takes it
to go somewhere down the road.
Each day’s a blessing.
One by One.
They bless each life
from sun to sun.
The October day is crisp and
sweet with Winter on its mind.
But ling’ring summer memories
keep it soft and warm and kind.
Rabbits won the Zucchini Wars.
I can’t fight them anymore.
When I want fresh vegetables,
I’ll buy brocc’li from the store.
