It’s the Wettest November in History.

The weather’s plain Cranky and Cold.

The Climate Change is Getting to Me.

This rain is becoming Old.

We’re used to steady dampness.

But, this rain’s just plain WET.

The question that occurs to me:

How Wet Can a Wet Month Get?

Four young high school students are dead.

More will surely die.

Students and teachers lay

puddled in blood.

Again, we’re asking:  Why?

Oh, well.

Our December meeting’s coming up.

I hope that you can make it.

(If you haven’t read your book,

you’re smart enough to fake it).

So, plan to come around eleven

for literary thinking.

Then, plan to stay around for lunch,

for food and champagne drinking.

We’ll celebrate emergence from

Dark Days that we’ll remember.

And thank the Loving Gods above

that we’ll meet in December.

There’s hateful and stupid and crazy and mean

and all gradations in between.

Who can know the mind of a man

who’s bent to kill any way that he can?

The day’s grown dark.

I cannot see

 my neighbors’ houses

‘cross the street from me.

It feels a bit spooky.

Then I stop to remember.

These are just the short,

dark days of November.

November skies are dark with rain.

The outside air drops colder.

Chill wind cuts through the sodden air.

Old Winter’s growing bolder.

An atmospheric River of Rain

is flowing in the skies above us.

We may have had a summer of Dry,

but we know the Rain Gods love us.

I got my third vaccine and

suddenly my life is brighter.

With the added new protection,

the whole world just seems much lighter.

I think that I’ll go out to lunch…

stop for coffee.…meet for brunch….

and do the things I used to do

before the COVID bullied through.

I’ve vacuumed all the house, and

I’ve mopped up the kitchen floor.

I’ve oiled the wooden tables,

shined the glass beside the door.

I’ve hung fresh bathroom towels, and

I’ve scoured the kitchen sink.

I’ve put out autumn colors

to replace my Summer Pink.

I’ve done the best I can to get

a clean, inviting look.

I hope my company brings food.

I’m much too tired to cook.
