The daffodils out in the snow
reach up for morning sun,
and spread their cheery promise
that our Spring has near begun!
The daffodils out in the snow
reach up for morning sun,
and spread their cheery promise
that our Spring has near begun!
The sky is gray and hazy.
It’s a wet and dripply day.
There’s not a hint of sunshine –
Not a solitary ray.
But my heart is light and happy
and my voice just wants to sing
‘cause the calendar is telling me
it’s Very Nearly Spring!
I hope this day goes well for you
and things go as they should.
I hope you’re feeling happy.
I hope you’re feeling good.
The Uvalde children haunt me.
Silent voices. Mem’ries fade.
Bright new dawns rise up before us.
Yet we know the price they paid.
The Rubatino trucks are out.
It’s our garbage pick-up day.
We cart things in.
They haul stuff out.
The exchange is underway.
Ev’ry morn when I wake up
I pull a sip from my coffee cup.
I step outside and look around
to find some breakfast in this town.
Then I head out.
I don’t know where.
It’s a road that leads
away from there.
The miles go by.
Not much around…
I’ll sleep tonight
in another town.
I’m a trav’ling man.
Be nice.
Be kind.
And wait your turn .
That’s all we need to do.
The earth will be a better place
for them, and me, and you.
There are dirty dishes in my sink.
It’s just impossible to think
that I’m the one who left them there…
there’s no one else the blame to share…
I asked a genie for some wishes –
that he’d clean up the dirty dishes.
But, no, they’re still just waiting there….
I’m asking you: is that quite fair?
The pretty February sun
is brighting up our day.
Its smile is reassurance
that Spring’s just a month away!
Night falls, and we close down our day.
We head for quiet sleep.
And now our eyes are closing.
Our rest is full, and deep.
