My lilac bush is sickly
but at least it’s still alive.
It almost got its roots drowned
but it managed to survive.
It isn’t quite the healthiest that
you have ever seen.
I’m really just ecstatic that
the leaves are turning green.

I’m really just ecstatic that

The Uvalde children haunt me.
Grim reminder from the past.
Never finished.
Never over.
Just an anguish that will last.
A Blessing is a miracle
in its way.
A Miracle is coming
to you today!
Ordinary people doing ordinary things.
Savoring the richness that plain “Ordinary” brings.
They’re going to coronate a king
with glitzy crowns and everything!
Oh, it will be a fancy show
with pomp and glitter, don’cha know?
Men with swords and fancy hats.
Dancing clowns and acrobats.
Grand parades and marching bands.
Little children holding hands.
Noisy drums and gongs that clang.
Fireworks bursting with a bang.
Stately carriage—prancing horse–
velvet ropes to mark their course.
People lined up on the streets.
Vendors selling chips and sweets.
Ev’ry thing will be just grand.
They’ll sing their anthem with the band!
The English sure can do it right!
They have it wrapped up nice and tight.
The cannons roar. The bells all ring…
when England coronates its King!
My garden gate is mended.
I do hope you will come in.
I hope you’ll sit and stay awhile.
I hope you’ll be my friend.
May angels be with you today.
May angels walk beside you.
May they protect at ev’ry hand.
And comfort you. And guide you.
The teacher speaks of History.
The dates remain a mystery.
In Botany, she speaks of herbs.
In English, conjugating verbs.
In Math, he wants an X amount
from numbers I can’t seem to count.
I wonder as the hours pass:
Today, will I be killed in class?
If I were a rabbit, I’d like this place.
I’d paste a smile on my bunny face.
I’d pick out a tulip or a daffodil
and I’d graze away till I had my fill.
Give yourself a gentle day.
Let your body rest.
Feel the gift of happiness.
Know that you are blessed.
