Today is bright and beautiful…
the longest of the year.
The brilliant start of summer
marks a lull in our COVID fear.
Today is bright and beautiful…
the longest of the year.
The brilliant start of summer
marks a lull in our COVID fear.
Too many friends have passed away.
Too many minds are lost.
There’ve been too many fractures.
There’s been too high a cost.
My Sweet Peas turn their pretty faces,
laughing, to the sun.
They offer up their fragrance…
quite enough for everyone.
My Sweet Peas’ friendly blossoms
turn their faces to the sun.
When you’re in my garden,
they bid “Welcome, Everyone!”
When I am in my garden,
all the world seems far away.
The garden’s smiling promise
says that life will be Okay.
I’ve been observing for a long, long time
and among the things I’m seeing, is
that included in the things you are
is a First Class Human Being.
He’s strapped in his car seat, heading for school…
but the shooter has another plan.
The shooter shoots the little one right in the belly…
and thinks that shows he’s a man.
The little one headed for kindergarten.
The shooter? We don’t know where.
This is America. 2021.
We pause…in cold despair.
It’s not the same to get your cookies
from a piled-up stack in a bin.
There’s just no selling substitute for
a bundled-up kid with a grin.
“You mess with me about a mask?
I’ll kill you on the spot.
I’ll shoot whoever crosses me
without a second thought.”

I ‘spose it could happen to anyone.
She meets a man. He has a gun.
“Just doing my job”, the woman said….
But, he pulls a gun and she is dead.
There’s no more Frappuccino Mocha
waiting at the store.
It’s gone. Kaput.
It’s Bye-Bye time….
can’t buy it anymore.
