This December day is
bleak and drear.
We grind our way
through an Awful Year.
The darkest days
still lie ahead.
The future’s stark:
a year of dread.
This December day is
bleak and drear.
We grind our way
through an Awful Year.
The darkest days
still lie ahead.
The future’s stark:
a year of dread.
When I go out for my walk today,
I’ll lift my face to the sky.
I’ll watch the white clouds overhead
as they silently drift by.
The vaccines are spreading across the land.
The pace of progress is slow.
A million have received a dose:
three hundred million to go.
The virus didn’t spare us
from its wrath in these Holy Days.
The death toll keeps on rising,
keeping up its deadly ways.
I’m sending you a Rainbow
with its promise for your day.
There’ll be blue skies and sunshine
with bright hope to light your way.
Today I’ll catch a rainbow—
colors red and green and blue.
I’ll paint the world with color,
splashed with ev’ry shade and hue.
I think that I’ll push back the clouds.
I’ll harness the rain and wind.
I’ll splatter the sky with rainbows.–
or, at least, I will pretend.
I never want to push my luck
when I pass by Rubatino’s truck.
The drivers like to liven their day
by fright’ning white-haired ladies away.
The COVID death rate’s rising.
Numbers climb across the land.
Death is washing over us.
Grim Death’s at every hand.
A Merry Christmas to you all
and Happy Holiday Cheer!
Blessings to each and every one
and have a Sweet New Year!
