Today I washed my COVID hair.
My hair no longer brings despair.
It’s cut and coiffed and in repair.
It looks like anybody’s hair.

This prayer’s a simple wish for you
to ease you through your day:
That ev’ry step’s a happy one
with Joy along your way
I look in the bathroom mirror
and I sigh at the COVID weight.
Then, I nibble a little something
while I rue all the candy I ate.
Google says it’s sunny today.
Google says it will be warm.
I looked outside at the dripping skies,
and noticed we’re true to form.
The Everett sky is grim and gray—
not a ray that I can find.
But I know in my heart that Google’s right.
Weather’s just a state of mind.
I feel hope rise within me.
Everything’s not quite so bleak.
The shot should be effective
in about another week.
I can plan to get my hair done.
I can have lunch with a friend.
I can do the things I used to do.
Life’s no longer at its end.
My brain’s been Feeling Shaky.
My brain’s been Quite Uncertain.
My brain is Unreliable
behind this Virus Curtain.
I hope my brain is Still Up There.
I hope that I can find it!
I hope that it will start again and
all I’ll do is rewind it.
We were born in the Depression.
We grew up in World War II.
We’ve known our share of troubles.
There’s a lot we’ve made it through.
We know how to cooperate.
We’re willing to do our part.
We also know the frailties that
wrack the human heart.
We can handle the wicked virus…
…its isolation and its fear.
Still, we’re glad to get the new vaccine
with its hope for a better year!
Some people’s cats need therapists
to help them Be Their Best.
But my cats reach their zenith when
they get to Eat and Rest.
Every day I look to see
what that day’s promise
will bring for me.
Every day is a bright surprise
and every day’s promise
delights my eyes.
I’m burning a candle for you today
to keep you safe from harm.
I’ll keep a candle burning till
I know you’re home, and warm.
