In India, the bodies burn

in flashing flames of fire.

The country staggers with the deaths

as the COVID pace grows higher.

It’s April and it’s nearly time

for us to meet again.

But, still, because of COVID

we are mainly staying in.

So we’ll stay close to our own home

and lift our coffee cup.

And drink together to the day

when life will open up.

This awful pandemic has changed my life.

I sometimes wonder when

the life I lived and the things I did

will come my way again.

My wild Corona Virus hair

is all fixed up – in full repair.

It’s washed and permed and combed and sheared

with far less trauma than I feared.

Some businesses are opening.

Some kids are going to school.

Distancing and facial masks

are still the COVID rule.

It’s been a long, long year of stress.

Folks are taking it slow.

As for me, the Beauty Salon

is the very first place I’ll go.

I’m Free!  I’m Free!

I’m Free at Last!

The Awful Virus Year

is past.

I’ve masked and distanced

to survive.

And now I’ve made it through alive!

I’ve COVID Virus of the Brain.

I’ve got it Bad.

I must explain.

I cannot do

what I used to do.

My Brain has Quit.

My Brain is Through.

My Brain has fin’ly

Let Me Down.

I cannot go with

you to town.

I’ve had my second Virus shot.

My heart is feeling lighter.

Post-COVID life is kicking in.

The whole world seems much brighter.

Today I got my second dose

of the prized Moderna vaccine.

And, tonight I feel more hopeful

about a future change of scene!

I’m able to go out again.

I’ll cut and perm my Virus Hair.

I can meet my friends for coffee.

I can go almost anywhere!
