I peek outside

and what do I see?

Old Man Winter’s

creeping up on me.

Today it’s Amy who’s after me.

Amy wants my money, you see.

“Persistence” is Amy’s pedigree.

No relief in sight that I can see.

Today I’m getting calls from Kate.

She’s quite persistent, doesn’t wait.

Kate’s been calling me for days.

The calls come through in dif’rent ways.

I don’t know what she calls about….

don’t listen enuf to hear her out.

She sounds a little tense and worried

but always calm and never hurried.

This week it seems to be my Fate

to get unending calls from Kate.

Wait!  There it goes!  She’s calling again!

These calls from Kate will never end.

Smoke hovers over the neighborhood.

Ratings are “Toxic”—“Hazardous”—“Plain Not Good”.

The smoke is becoming Quite Perverse.

It vacillates ‘tween Bad and Worse.

I’ve given up on 2020.

I’ve decided it’s a Lost Cause.

The year has dragged on much too long.

Let’s all just give it a Pause.

The year has been a Bummer.

It’s usefulness is gone.

Let’s all agree to let it go —

Fast Forward to 2021.

Robo-Calls are robo-ing.

I’m climbing up the wall.

Some days they have a little pause.

Today, no break at all.

I’m a Very Happy Camper

tho I still feel a little shock!

I just went up to Safeway.

Guess what they had in stock?

The treat I’m always looking for.

The treat I ‘specially adore.

The treat I look for near and far:

My Whidbey Island Ice Cream Bar!

I’m giving up my Book Club.

It makes me Very Sad.

But, times are changing, life goes on…

Perhaps that not too bad.

My Book Club’s switching over to Zoom

to cope in this time of the Virus.

I’m not feeling up to Zoom:

I still use a quill on papyrus.

“Repent!  Repent!  For the End is Nigh!”

I will repent!  I will, I cry!  I’ll gladly do my share!

I’ll do about whatever it takes

to get some clean, fresh ocean air!
